Not so good shopping trip
Ok I have been sick so today I was really excited to get out and do some money saving. I was a bit disappointed...but I learned a few lessons that I thought I would share.
Target
What I went for ... (see previous Target post) I left with 4 Motts Applesauce and 1 Pledge for $1.12.
What I learned...
1) our Target doesn't carry all the products they have advertised in their ad i.e. market pantry soups
2) our Target will not guarantee that a sale item will be restocked i.e. cheap razors
3) our Target will not accept coupons that have a value greater than the item you are purchasing. For example I really wanted to get free Pledge. So I printed the $3/1 Pledge printable and the Target Pledge printable. I found Pledge for $3.50 - by combining both these coupons I should have been able to get Pledge for free ... however our Target did not honor both these coupons tonight because I would have had a $.50 overage. I was told by a manager tonight that they will not accept coupons for more than the price of the item... i.e. you pretty much can't get anything free at Target :-( I was pretty sad.
But you can get Motts Applesauce for $.13 and Pledge Multi-surface cleaner, $3.39 ($2/1 Pledge Printable and $1/1 Target Printable) for $.39 so still a win
Sorry Jana about the Renu contact solution - our target doesn't carry it BUT Walmart does have the trial size for $1.47 after the $1 printable you can get it for $.47 and considering that 2 trial size bottles makes 1 regular size bottle at $4 this isn't too bad...
Last lesson I learned .... try these deals before I post them :-( I apologize if you have printed a bunch of coupons in hopes of getting previously mentioned deals.

Kiddos Coupon
So for those of you that love Kiddos (childrens consignment shop) did you know you could sign up for email alerts? The owner has specific months for when you can bring in clothes to sell for consignment so I signed up for this reason. I found out this week that she also sends out coupons occasionally. So today I went shopping for summer with a 25% off coupon! Sign up the next time you are in Kiddos and let her know you read it on bgcouponsmart - maybe next time she will let me post the coupon online :-)

448 unexpired coupons!
There are some really great deals this week that I can't wait to share with you but first let me tell you I updated the coupon list and we have 448 unexpired coupons in the last 5 weeks of inserts. That is a lot of free money!
I think in spreadsheets so check out the files on the right under Weekly Coupon Lists... there you can download a pdf on How the Documents Work. The Category List pdf has a list of all unexpired coupons for the last 5 weeks grouped by categories - this is very handy when you find a great deal and want to know if you have a coupon for it. The Coupon List 3-22-09 is an excel file that contains tabs with How to, Category List and a list of coupons by week. I hope to update these weekly.
Let me know what you think or if you have an idea of how to make these more useful. Stay tuned for a list of deals of the week.

Sunday Lunches
Lets face it Sundays can be hectic. We love going to church and serving the people of our community but it is a long morning for my little ones. By the time we get home they are starving and exhausted. To add to this my husband and I have always loved eating out after church somehow justifying in our minds the need of "rest" on Sunday which includes no cooking, no clean-up and a really good nap :-) (disclaimer - we do not endorse this as Biblically sound or correct doctrine) However for a family of four this can be very expensive so we have found this compromise.... Little Caesars! For $5.99 ($6.18 after tax) we can call and order a 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 sausage pizza on the way out of church and pick it up on the way home. Pizzas are ready in 10 minutes. For us this is cheaper than frozen pizza since to this day I have not found a half and half frozen pizza.
Help!
Ok I know I started this blog and haven't posted in a week. My desire for this site is to share as many deals as we can but my life is busy and an unexpected trip to Indiana this week confirmed that :-) So I have decided to ask for help ... to make this site useful to all who read it would you help me by emailing bgcouponsmart@gmail.com if you have a great Bowling Green tip or coupon deal. Someday maybe I will have a prize for this but for now I will happily give you credit on the blog if you want it... thanks for helping me make this a valuable site for all of Bowling Green!
Check back tomorrow for an updated coupon list and some great deals at Kroger, Walgreens & CVS.

Website Review
I found this website www.afullcup.com this week and have used it non-stop since then. It is a free registration so I signed up. It has a pretty serious list of searchable coupons from the newspaper inserts, online, peelies (coupons on products) and coupon booklets. It also has a tool that allows you to see where your coupon product might be on sale - how sweet is that :-)
I saw Cottonelle on sale at Kroger in their buy 10 get $5 off deal. So I wondered if there was a coupon for Cottonelle somewhere? I typed in Cottonelle and it gave me a list of coupons - I found a printable one and was able to get my normally $7.50 TP for $5 - hooray! (My husband has particular TP preferences :-)
Another feature - it prints multiple Target coupons. If you click on the Target Coupon Generator and then select the coupon you wish to print it asks "enter the number of times to duplicate" and it prints them small so you don't waste a ton of paper printing them. Also they remind you that you can combine printable Target coupons with manufacturer coupons. I will definitely be on the look out for this.
Here's my Target deal... Motts 6-pack Applesauce for $1.67 - $1 (Target Coupon) = $.67
I printed 3 coupons "$1 off Motts 6-pack Applesauce " from the Target Coupon Generator. When I went tonight I had to buy these in 3 seperate transactions. So you must be strong and tell the cashier to let you split up your order in order to get $1 off each pack.
Happy Applesauce Hunting!

Free Redbox Movie Wednesday!
So to save you the work of going to Redbox here is the code to get a free movie today only.
Today's code for a free night's rental* is: JBG123
When you get to the redbox you must click on the button on the bottom right corner.. says something like "rent a movie with a code." After you entering the code and your movie selection it will still ask you to swipe your card just in case you go over the one day. But it does not charge your card.
Happy movie!

Make Your Own Laundry Soap
Ok so I have shared with some of my friends my newest excitement in saving money... making my own laundry soap! I seriously dislike buying laundry soap because for one I believe laundry is my enemy and for two it cost way to much to do something I dislike greatly :-) But I was really excited when watching The Duggars on TLC and saw that they make their own laundry soap that cost roughly $2 to make 10 gallons! I don't know about you but 10 gallons of laundry soap will last a very long time in my house. So for the last 3 weeks I have been using homemade laundry soap and it works great!
TIPS FOR LAUNDRY SOAP: We use Fels-Naptha bar soap in the homemade soap recipes, but you can use Ivory, Sunlight, Kirk's Hardwater Castile or Zote bars. Don't use heavily perfumed soaps. (I used Ivory since I couldn't find Fels-Naptha) Washing Soda (I found this in an Arm & Hammer Box in the Laundry aisle) and Borax can normally be found on the laundry or cleaning aisle. Recipe cost approx. $2.
Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap- Front or top load machine- best value
4 Cups hot tap water
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup Washing Soda
½ Cup Borax
- Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.
-Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
-Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water. Shake before each use. (will gel)
-Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil. (I haven't tried this because I didn't find the essential oil)
-Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.
-Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)
-Front Load Machines- ¼ Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)
My friend Sandy asked about dryer sheets as well... check out the Duggars site to get recipes for dryer sheets, powdered laundry soap ect.

Cheap Eats @ Logan's
I just went to Logan's tonight with my family. The 4 of us ate a delicious meal for under $20! I checked the Logan's website a few hours before we went and found out that if you sign up for the Nut-E club they'll send you a coupon for signing up and then they'll send you more special offers on occasion. Just before we left I had a $5 coupon in my e-mail which I printed out. Also, many of you may already know that on Mon. and Tues. they have the 2 can eat for $13.99 deal and kids meals are $2.99. Four meals and drinks for under $20. I'm stoked, my deal seaking junky friends!
My Walgreens Trip of Freebies!
So tonight I made my first trip to Walgreens. I am excited to share that I was able to get 1 free Fructis Shampoo, 1 free Fructis Hair Style product and 1 free Colgate Total Advanced Clean toothpaste!
So here's how....
Fructis Shampoo on sale $2.99 - $2 ESC - $1 RP(3/8) = +.01
Fructis Hair Style Product on sale $2.99 - $2 ESC - $1 RP(3/8) = +.01
Colgate Total Advanced Clean toothpaste on sale $3.49 - $2.50 ESC - $1 OL = +.01
Codes to understand
ESC - Walgreens Monthly Easy Saver Catalog pick up at any Walgreens or print online
OL - online print Colgate coupon here
RP - RedPlum insert
Something I learned about Walgreens is that you can't get money back with a coupon so if an item cost .99 and your coupon is $1 then you must buy something else to make up that .01 difference - bummer. Not easy to find something worth .01 but at the moment the cheapest thing I can find if you don't need anything else is Ramen noodles for .29. So I have decided this is my default "extra" item.

One way to do coupons
Ok here is my first attempt at creating a list of coupons from the BG Daily News. I wanted to do this because it helps a lot when you are in a store trying to figure out if you have a coupon or not. This is an excel sheet with coupons listed by category (at least the categories that I made up :-)
Here's how we do it...
1. Save your coupon inserts from the Daily News. (Red Plum - RP, Smart Source - SS, Proctor Gamble - PG)
2. Staple the insert near the fold and label with date of newspaper on front (for easy viewing) and number of coupons in the insert (See my list on the right)
3. Then download Master Coupon List (excel file) - this file has a list of all non-expired coupons starting with week 2/22/09. The coupons are listed by category for easy search.
4. Before going to the store cut out coupons you know you will use that day.
5. When going to the store take your Master Coupon List and all your inserts (it helps to have an expandable file) and scissors.
6. Then when at the store if you see an item on sale and wonder if you have a coupon you can check the Master Coupon List rather than sorting through all your coupons.
And as Charity would say... There you go!
Here's the link to download the excel file.... Master Coupon List

Redbox March Madness
If you don't already know about Redbox you should definitely check it out. Redbox are kiosks set up around town that rent movies for $1 per night. They are stationed at several McDonalds and even the Walmarts (yes I say and spell Walmarts) on Campbell Lane. Anyway here's the deal... every wednesday in March Redbox is offering a code on their blog (http://blog.redbox.com/) to receive a free movie rental. The code is good for that Wednesday until midnight. You can only use it at the kiosk, not to reserve online. Happy movies!

I went Sunday and bought 10 bottles of Powerade (normally about $1.39, on sale for $1.00)....for $5 ($10 minus the $5 instant rebate). You can get 3 rebates on one receipt....so on that trip with coupons and sales (I bought exactly 30 items from the list of rebate items), I saved 54% off on my bill.
